Fear of imminent execution/7 jANUARY 2003

Sasan Al-Kanan(m), aged 35

Association of Iranian Political Prisoners(in Exile) is concerned that Sasan Al-Kanan(m), aged 35, faces imminent execution, after he was reportedly sentenced to death by Branch 1 of the Islamic "revolutionary" Court in Sanandaj on 5 January 2003.

Sasan Al-Kanan, allegedly a supporter of the Komala Organization, an armed political group opposed to the current Iranian regime, has been sentenced to death on various charges, including "acting against state security". Sasan has been given 20 days to appeal from the date of the sentence(5 Jaunary 2003) , before Supreme Court decides on his case. He was arrested some time in October 2003.

Association of Iranian Political Prisoners(in Exile), condemns the death penalty of Sasan Al-Kanan, and urging all defenders of abolishment of Death Penalty, Human Rights organisations in particular, to put the Islamic regime of Iran under pressure, that the death sentence imposed on Sasan be commuted immediately.
